The tour is about 1.5 to 2 hours. It begins with a five minute walk on a paved path from the welcome center to the cave opening. There is an iron gate at the cave entrance. You must be able to step over the threshold, which is about a foot above the ground. Once inside you must use a flashlight since the cave does not have electricity. The cave floor can be slippery at spots, and there is one spot where you must crouch down as you walk because the ceiling is really low (this is only a short distance, maybe about 100 feet). The tour inside the cave is about 1 mile altogether. After leaving the tour, your shoes will have a film of red clay from the cave floor. Wear shoes/sneakers/boots that you don't mind getting dirty and wet, and it is advised that you put the soles of your foot ware into bleach for about 20 minutes to kill the fungus (White-nose syndrome) that is causing bats to die (especially if you plan on visiting other caves).
