The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a case about whether a charitable group linked with the Catholic Church can claim a religious exemption from Wisconsin’s unemployment tax system.

The Supreme Court agreed Friday to decide whether religious affiliated entities like Catholic Charities should be exempt from state unemployment taxes, taking up its first major religion case in more than a year.

The conservative U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled for religious claims that seek government benefits or limit duties set by government.
