The president commuted the sentences of 1,499 people who were released from prison and placed on home confinement during the coronavirus pandemic.

Former Dixon Comptroller Rita Crundwell, who embezzled more than $50 million from the city and was sentenced to 19 years in prison in 2013, was among 1,500 sentences commuted Thursday by President Joe Biden.

Crundwell embezzled over $53 million from city coffers and used those funds for personal business expenses, including her horse breeding business, personal credit cards, and several real estate properties.
