Meta's Facebook and Instagram were down for thousands of users across the United States on Wednesday, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

Facebook is down and users are reporting outages to downdetector, the site that reports problems with popular websites. The Facebook spike started shortly after 1 p.m. Eastern Time. The biggest problem occured on the mobile app, where 57% of the problems were reported. The site had another 33% of the problems. And it was happening all over.

Meta said Wednesday that it is close to resolving a technical issue that is causing a widespread outage of its apps, including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. “We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps.
