ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Crews battled a fire at a two-story home on Gladstone Street off Clinton Street on the city’s southwest side.

Over 40 firefighters were called to a 2-alarm house fire in Rochester Tuesday evening. Crews were called to the fire on Gladstone Street around 7:30 p.m. According to Lt. Jackeline Sierra, firefighters on scene found a heavy fire in the back of the vacant home on arrival.

Crews are investigating the cause of a second-alarm fire Tuesday night on the city's west side. Units responded around 7:25 p.m. to a home on Gladstone Street, where fire was found in the first floor,

The flames were extinguished within 15 minutes, but a dog inside the home died from smoke inhalation, despite resuscitation efforts, according to the Rochester Fire Department. Two dogs and a cat were successfully rescued from the scene. No residents or firefighters were hurt.

Emergency services responded to a call of a structure fire at a home in Swanton at 1 p.m. on November 4. At the time of the call, a person was reportedly still inside the building. Responders say that person is still missing.
