LG tells FlatpanelsHD it could produce more units if demand increases, although it hasn’t developed a new Blu-ray player since 2018.

In a sign of the times, LG has announced the discontinuation of its Blu-ray players, including the UBK80 and UBK90 UHD models.

As reported by FlatpanelsHD.com, it looks like LG is pulling out of the Blu-ray player market. Searching LG’s website will bring up individual pages for Blu-ray players, such as the UBK80 and BP350, but every selection is listed as “Discontinued.”

LG, who you will know mostly for its stellar OLED TVs, has announced that it will discontinue production of its currently available models. The UBK80 and UBK90 4K Blu-ray players were both released in 2018, and LG hasn't released successors for either model in the six years that they have been available; so this hasn't come as too much of a shock.

The list of manufacturers of UHD Blu-ray players continues to shrink. LG is exiting the market: The manufacturer has already removed the German product pages, while the US pages explicitly state "discontinued".

Following in line with Samsung and Oppo, LG is halting any further production of its Blu-ray players with all current units in stock being the very last in rotation.
