Thousands of acres in Malibu are still on fire as firefighters work to contain the Franklin fire after red flag warnings end, according to officials. Around 4,037 acres of land are ablaze because of the fire, according to Cal Fire. It is 7% contained.

Santa Ana winds are spreading the Franklin fire in Malibu, where 2,200 acres were scorched by Tuesday morning, Dec. 10. “We have a northeast wind coming off the Santa Monica Mountains with gusts up to 40 miles per hour,” NWS meteorologist James Brotherton said. “That’s coming right off the mountains down into Malibu.”

Driven by strong Santa Ana winds, the Franklin Fire in Malibu continues to burn, scorching nearly 4,000 acres as of Wednesday morning, and is now 7% contained. More than 1,500 firefighters are battling the blaze that is being fueled by dry brush and low humidity.
