Google has officially extended the software support policy around its older Pixel phones, including some fan favorites.

Google’s latest Pixel smartphones come with a guarantee that they’ll continue to receive operating system and security updates for at least seven years. But that’s only a promise Google has been making for a little over a year, and it only applies to the Pixel 8 and newer phones.

The company has officially extended the software support policy around its older Pixel phones, including some fan favorites.

When Google released the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in 2023, it decided to start promising seven years of Android updates and seven years of security updates, meaning those phones will continue to get important software upgrades all the way to the end of 2030.

Google released the Pixel update this morning and it happens to be the stable version of Android 15 QPR1 that we have been testing since August. These QPR builds are typically quite large, and that’s the case again here.

Your Pixel 7 will continue getting OS updates until 2027, while your Pixel 6 will get the latest versions of Android until 2026.
