A new 3,000-home development in west Edinburgh has been recommended for approval by officials at the city council. If approved, the new community would be constructed on a 29-hectare brownfield site which used to be a runway for Edinburgh Airport, as part of a £1bn development for the city.

A threatened strike by fuel tanker drivers at Edinburgh airport is to go ahead with a warning of “widespread disruption” to festive flights. The Unite union confirmed continuous strike action over 19 days in a dispute over pay. The walkout is due to start at 5am on December 19 and continue until the early morning of January 6.
