Meta appears to be having a widespread outage across its social media and messaging apps, with Instagram, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Threads all experiencing problems loading.

Outage tracker Downdetector shows big spikes for Instagram with 70,000 outage reports above average and Facebook, which had over 100,000 outage reports, as of Wednesday afternoon. Outage reports began to decline in volume after a peak around 1:10 p.m. ET.

Meta has experienced a major global outage with thousands of users reporting Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp issues. "We're aware that a technical issue is impacting some users' ability to access our apps.
