In a move announced mere minutes after former Marshall head coach Charles Huff was officially named to the same position at Southern Miss, the Thundering Herd announced his replacement -- Tony Gibson.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Tony Gibson is coming home to become the head coach of the Marshall University football team. The Van, WV native has been the defensive coordinator for the NC State Wolfpack the last six years and it will be his first head coaching job. It’s expected to be a six year contract to lead the Herd.

Shortly after Southern Mississippi announced the hiring of Charles Huff, Marshall University confirmed that Boone County native Tony Gibson is the 32nd head coach in program history. Gibson will be introduced at a press conference at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, in Encova Auditorium at the Brad D. Smith Center for Business and Innovation.

Former West Virginia defensive coordinator Tony Gibson has landed his first head coaching job. Sunday afternoon, the Marshall Thundering Herd announced that Gibson will be taking over the program, replacing Charles Huff,
