Earlier this year, a Marburg virus outbreak in Rwanda resulted in at least 66 infections and 15 deaths, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Thanks to the quick-acting surveillance of public health authorities in the African country, the outbreak seems to be under control, with no new cases reported since Oct. 30.

An “unknown disease” has reportedly killed 143 people in a rural part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in Central Africa. Symptoms include fever, headache, cough, and anemia, but little is currently known about the illness.

At least 79 people have died from an unknown disease that is causing flu-like symptoms in south-western Democratic Republic of Congo, the health ministry says. The health ministry says the majority of people who have died are between the ages of 15 and 18.
