Travis Timmerman, a Missouri native, was imprisoned in Syria after he crossed into the country months ago. He was flown out of Syria and taken by helicopter to Jordan on Friday, a U.S. official said.

Travis Timmerman has been flown out of Syria, where he was imprisoned before being released by rebels this week, a US official said on Friday.

The U.S. military has transported out of Syria an American who had disappeared seven months ago into former President Bashar Assad’s notorious prison system and was among the thousands released this week by rebels,

He said he was freed by "the liberators who came into the prison and knocked the door down (of his cell) with a hammer."
