Aston Villa’s Champions League adventure is proving a roller-coaster ride of unpredictability and the knockout stages are now firmly in their sights.

Aston Villa substitutes Jhon Duran and Ross Barkley bagged second-half goals to salvage a 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig on Tuesday in a Champions League match marked by a stunning error from keeper Emi Martinez that gifted Leipzig a goal.

Another substitute, Ross Barkley, ultimately earned victory, however, after Leipzig twice pegged Villa back, Lois Openda and Christoph Baumgartner cancelling out goals by John McGinn and that one from Durán.
